Following ethnic violence, more than 2,000 Manipur residents have fled to nearby Mizoram and are looking for refuge there, according to a top official on Monday. H Lalengmawia, state home secretary and commissioner, said that as of Monday evening, 2,056 Manipur residents who were internally displaced had entered Mizoram and sought sanctuary in various locations in the northeastern state.
According to the senior official, the majority of those who have arrived from Manipur are of the Zo (Mizo) ethnic group and have been housed by family members. The administration is also working to provide temporary housing for those folks.
According to him, Saitual district, which borders Manipur, has the most of these individuals (827), followed by Kolasib district (757). Additionally, 59 individuals have sought refuge in East Mizoram's Champhai district, which is close to the Myanmar border, while 402 people have arrived in the Aizawl area. In the districts of Serchhip and Khawzawl, there are four and seven Manipur residents, respectively.
Lalengmawia reports that 86 more state citizens who were stuck in Imphal on Monday had been evacuated. The remaining 52 were transported here from Imphal through Kolkata, while the last 34 arrived in Aizawl by bus after arriving at Guwahati airport on Sunday.
According to him, 29 more persons would be flown to Guwahati on Tuesday where they will be picked up by bus. The top official said that attempts are being made by the administration to remove the 68 citizens of the state who are still trapped in the bordering state.
