Against visiting England, Team India kicked off the five-match Test series at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on a high note on Thursday.

One of the highlights of the first Test of the visit was when Axar Patel’s ball dismissed Jonny Bairstow, an accomplished English batsman.

After losing three wickets in rapid succession, the visitors were struggling to maintain the English innings, but the batsman was settling in well at the crease with 37 runs.

When the dangerous Bairstow got past the Englishman’s defenses to hit timber, Indian all-rounder Axar Patel came up with a brilliant delivery to get rid of him.

Prior to the match, English captain Ben Stokes won the coin toss and chose to bat first. Opening pair Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley set up a 55-run partnership for the first wicket to give the visitors a strong start to the game as they shut out the Indian pace attack.

However, it was experienced bowler Ravichandran Ashwin who bowled Duckett after the opener had scored 35 runs off his willow, giving the Indians their breakthrough.

Ashwin was assisted by Ravindra Jadeja, who bowled from the other end, as he removed Ollie Pope before Tamil Nadu’s right-hand spinner struck once more to remove Crawley.

Before Axar delivered the turner that sent Bairstow out to the dugout, Joe Root and Bairstow attempted to settle the English innings.

Root was the next to go, as Jadeja outwitted the seasoned batsman because Jasprit Bumrah held onto a catching chance that the Englishman had given him.

Axar added to the agony for the English when he trapped Ben Foakes behind the wickets with yet another outstanding delivery, thanks to a catch by S Bharath.
