Protest by wrestlers: Delhi Police files two formal complaints alleging sexual harassment of WFI Chief Brij Bhushan

On Friday, the Delhi Police filed two FIRs in response to charges of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI).

Seven female wrestlers have accused Singh, a member of parliament for the governing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), of sexual harassment.

According to a senior police official, two FIRs have been filed at the Connaught Place police station in response to allegations made by female wrestlers.

The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the pertinent provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) regarding outraging modesty were used to lodge the first FIR, which deals with charges made by a juvenile.

The officer said that a second FIR had been filed to conduct thorough investigations into allegations made by adult complainants under pertinent IPC provisions relating to outraging modesty, and that the investigation into both FIRs was underway.

The FIRs were filed hours after the Supreme Court received notification from the Delhi Police that it would file a FIR against Singh. The FIRs coincide with an ongoing demonstration by wrestlers in Delhi's Jantar Mantar that started on Sunday. Prominent Indian wrestlers participating in the protest include Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and Bajrang Punia.

On Friday morning, the Supreme Court also instructed the Delhi Police to evaluate the claimed danger to a kid engaged in the case and to provide the necessary protection.

The protest was aborted in January, when the problem was initially brought up, when the Sports Ministry formed a committee to look into it. Anurag Thakur, the Union Minister for Sports, at the time said that Singh, a BJP politician and a muscleman with a criminal past, would be the subject of an investigation by a five-member oversight committee led by boxer MC Mary Kom.
