“Pakistan Went Into Back Foot When India Attacked Shaheen Shah Afridi” at the 2023 Asia Cup Ravichandran Ashwin, Recokns

Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin of India believes that Babar Azam and his teammates were put under pressure when the two teams met in the Super Four match of the Asia Cup 2023 in Colombo because of the aggressive tactics used by the Indian team’s openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill toward Pakistan’s star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-180635″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-collage-maker-14-sep-2023-01-33-pm-8339-11zon.png” alt=”theindiaprint.com collage maker 14 sep 2023 01 33 pm 8339 11zon” width=”1632″ height=”1105″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-collage-maker-14-sep-2023-01-33-pm-8339-11zon.png 700w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-collage-maker-14-sep-2023-01-33-pm-8339-11zon-220×150.png 220w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/theindiaprint.com-collage-maker-14-sep-2023-01-33-pm-8339-11zon-150×102.png 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1632px) 100vw, 1632px” title=”"Pakistan Went Into Back Foot When India Attacked Shaheen Shah Afridi" at the 2023 Asia Cup Ravichandran Ashwin, Recokns 3″>

In a lopsided Super-Four encounter in the Asia Cup 2023 on Monday at the R. Premadasa Stadium in this city, India defeated Pakistan by 228 runs thanks to unbeaten centuries from Virat Kohli and K.L. Rahul and a fantastic five-wicket haul from Kuldeep Yadav. After a rain delay, India resumed their attack on Pakistan at 4:40 pm on the second day, reaching a massive 356/2, their greatest total against Pakistan in ODIs.

Only three of Pakistan’s batsmen managed to score more than 20 in the chase in response, and the team struggled mightily. India’s fast bowlers put on an incredible display of seam and swing bowling while maintaining perfect line and length.

When Pakistan was down to only 128, Kuldeep stepped in to confuse the hitters and pick up 5/25, his second fifer in ODIs, giving India their largest margin of victory against Pakistan in terms of runs (228 runs).

India made a reasoned decision, according to Ashwin, since their batting order had enough depth. The seasoned off-spinner believed that even if the team lost wickets while attempting to attack, the Men in Blue still had enough firepower.

“Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill both made me think of the 1996 World Cup team of Sanath Jayasuriya and Romesh Kaluwitharana. Whoever puts their rear foot forward first wins the game. When India targeted Shaheen Shah Afridi early on, Pakistan found itself on the defensive, according to Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube explanation.

“As you can see, you might lose a few wickets. But India was aware of their superior batting strength. So, even if they had lost the openers, they would still have been able to put up a combination with Virat Kohli and KL Rahul and mount a recovery, the author said.

When these two Asian powerhouses faced off in the group stage match at the same location, Shaheen Afridi devastated the Men in Blue’s top-order with his new ball spell. In the Super Four, Rohit Sharma and Gill made a comeback, scoring 31 runs off the left-arm speedster’s first three overs.

Shaheen was out-of-sorts throughout the match, giving for 79 runs from his 10 overs and ending with only one wicket.
