<p>In a 71-minute second round encounter, a former world champion Sindhu, who had advanced to the quarterfinals at Arctic Open the previous week, put up a tenacious performance to overcome Tunjung 18-21 21-15 21-13.</p>
<p>Despite Sindhu entering the match with an overall 8-2 head-to-head record, the Indonesian has beaten Sindhu twice in the past three matches this year, including once in the Madrid Spain Masters final.</p>
<p>This season, Sindhu has struggled with her play. She left the Asian Games in Hangzhou without a medal, and things appeared gloomy for the Indian as she went down 6-12 and lost the first game against the Indonesian.</p>
<p>In the second game, she came back with a fury, blazing her way to a 13-4 lead in a commanding run of play.</p>
<p>The Indonesian quickly scored eight consecutive games to tie the score at 14-14, but Sindhu went on the offensive and took advantage of Tunjung’s long shot to earn six game points and pull ahead thanks to two flip serves.</p>
<p>Before delivering a perfect lift near the baseline to force a deciding, Sindhu wasted one.</p>
<p>In the third game, after a few early punches, the score was 3-3. Sindhu successfully returned a serve with a straight smash, but she missed the target at the net and let the lead go.</p>
<p>Forehand cross strokes put Sindhu under strain as she kept making mistakes. Sindhu quickly fell behind, behind 5-9.</p>
<p>But after forcing mistakes from her competitor, the Indian was back on an equal footing. when two accurate returns on her opponent’s forehand, Tunjung narrowly edged out Sindhu by one point, but Sindhu rallied back to tie the score at 13 when Tunjung again went long.</p>
<p>The young Indonesian collapsed because she committed too many mistakes on the backline and in the net, and Sindhu quickly increased her lead to 18-13.</p>
<p>When her opponent delivered the shuttle to the net, Sindhu saved it with a diving save, giving her seven match points.</p>
