<p>Ashneer Grover and his spouse Madhuri Jain Grover were apprehended by the Delhi Police’s Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) on Thursday night at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport while on route to New York for a holiday. <p>Grover said, “I found it strange as have traveled 4 times internationally since FIR filed in May – never been a problem and I had not even been summoned once,” in a post on X on Friday.</p>
<p>The move follows claims made in the EOW’s preliminary report of an inquiry that Grover’s family embezzled money from BharatPe under the guise of providing recruiting services and provided bank account numbers generated after the dates on which they were raised.</p>
<p>Grover said in the post on X that he was traveling to the US from November 16–23, saying, “At immigration they said LoC laga hua hai sir – EOW se check kar ke batate hai.”</p>
<p>“Until 8 AM this morning, May 17, seven hours after returning from the airport, I had not received any communication or summons from EOW since filing the FIR,” she said in the post.</p>
<p>He said, “Flight left in the interim anyway; EOW folks told Immigration to release us so we could go home.” The EOW summons was handed to the residence this morning (Friday); we shall comply as usual.</p>
<p>“No drama. LOC hatane ka process hai – I am not a flight risk – easy to prove hai. Baaki aapko jo chhaapna hai chhaapo. Picture chal rahi hai free mein – maze lo! Baaki premature obituaries bahut baari log likh chuke hai – ‘Jatt mareya tad maniye jad terami howe’ ! Don’t pronounce me dead till 13 days after you’ve burned me at the pyre!,” he said.</p>
<p>The Grovers may spend up to 10 years in prison if found guilty of the 17 charges in a criminal complaint BharatPe filed with the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing last year. The charges include embezzlement, forgery, and criminal breach of trust.</p>
<p>Grover’s wife Madhuri Jain authorized payments worth Rs 7.6 crore to eight such suppliers, who did not help the business find any personnel, according to a complaint filed by BharatPe.</p>
