The appointment of Muhammad Rizwan as Pakistan’s T20I team vice-captain

Mohammad Rizwan, a batsman and wicketkeeper, has been named captain of the men’s national squad for the Twenty20 International format by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Following Babar Azam’s departure as the team’s captain in all three game forms, Shaheen Shah Afridi was promoted to the position, and Rizwan will serve as his deputy. The board composition and leadership of the Pakistani squad have undergone significant changes since the end of the ODI World Cup 2023. The T20I selection of Rizwan as vice captain is a result of the reorganization.

The PCB announced Rizwan’s appointment as Shaheen’s deputy on X (previously Twitter).

Babar Azam is no longer officially part of the leadership structure as a result of the circumstances. Babar resigned from his position as captain of Pakistan in all game forms following his team’s disastrous performance in the 2023 ICC World Cup in India.

Babar’s performance for Pakistan in the ICC World Cup in India was dismal; with eight points from nine matches, he finished sixth. Babar himself amassed the third-highest total for Pakistan in nine World Cup matches with 320 runs at an average of 40 and a strike rate of 82.90.

For the Test format, Shan Masood was named captain, and Shaheen Shah Afridi was named captain for the T20 format.
